Add an email account to Thunderbird

In the Mail Account Setup Window, do the following:

  1. In the Your Name box, type your name as you want it to appear to other people.
  2. In the Email Address box, type the complete e-mail address assigned by Speartek. Make sure to include your user name, the @ symbol, and the domain name (i.e. user@speartek.com).
  3. In the Password box, type the case-sensitive password that was assigned by Speartek.
  4. Leave the Remember Password checkbox checked.
  5. Click Continue.

Thunderbird will look up the settings for your email account. Once it is finished, you will see that it failed to get those settings; however, this process will pre-populate some of the information needed to set up the account manually.

  1. Click the Manual Setup button.
  2. Click Server Settings in the left pane.

Under Server Settings, do the following:

  1. In the User Name field, type the complete e-mail address assigned by Speartek. Make sure to include your user name, the @ symbol, and the domain name (i.e. user@speartek.com).
  2. Uncheck the Leave messages on server checkbox (Additional Information)
    • Note: With this checkbox unchecked, when you download new messages from the server, the messages are deleted from Speartek's mail server. If you access this e-mail account using a mail client (such as Thunderbird) from multiple computers that is configured to remove the message from the server, the computer that downloads a new e-mail message is the only location where the message is stored. The message is no longer on Speartek’s mail server and will not be downloaded when you connect from another computer.
    • To view your messages from multiple computers, you can choose to laves messages on Speartek’s mail server. Should you check the Leave messages on server checkbox, then we recommend that you also check the For at most "x" days checkbox. This will help to prevent your mailbox on Speartek's mail server from reaching its storage limit.
    • If you configure Thunderbird to leave messages on the server, you may need to login to your webmail account and manually delete these messages. For more information about accessing your webmail account on Speartek's mail server, please visit the Speartek Webmail Help section.
  3. Click Outgoing Server (SMTP) in left pane.
  4. Select the account you configured and click the Edit button.

In the SMTP Server window, do the following:

  1. In the Server Name box, type the full name of the server provided by Speartek. This is most likely “pop.” followed by your domain name (i.e. pop.speartek.com). (Additional Information)
    • Note: Certain Internet Service Providers (ISP) may require that you use their outgoing mail server rather than Speartek's outgoing mail server. Please consult your ISP to determine the required outgoing server configuration.
  2. Leave the Port field value of 25.
  3. Check the Use name and password checkbox.
  4. In the User Name field, type the complete e-mail address assigned by Speartek. Make sure to include your user name, the @ symbol, and the domain name (i.e. user@speartek.com).
  5. Leave the Use secure authenticaion checkbox unchecked.
  6. Leave the Connection Security drop-down menu selection of None.
  7. Click OK to close the SMTP Server window.

  8. Click OK to close the Account Settings window.
  9. Type the case-sensitive password that was assigned by Speartek.

    • Note: If you select this option, you won't have to type your password each time you access the account. However, this also makes the account vulnerable to anyone who has access to your computer.
  11. Click OK.
